London Fashion Week

Spring 2012 Backstage with Eniko Mihalik

This is a shot of Eniko Mihalik I took backstage at the Issa Spring 2012 showing at London Fashion Week. It was taken with a 5D Mark II, 24 - 70mm L f2.8 with a Mini Softbox LTP and a reflector. Sometimes it's pandemonium backstage as the models and crew prepare for show time. This generally gives my a very limited time to get the shots for each model as I usually shoot the shows too. I usually rush to the photographers podium 10 minutes before showtime hoping somebody hasn't claimed my spot.

Roberto Cavalli - Spring 2012

Sticking with Milan here is a shot from the Roberto Cavalli Spring 2012 collection. It was one of the final big shows I shot in Milan before getting ready to jet off to Paris. The model is Daphne Groeneveld, a fantastic model who has a very unique look. It's surprising that the decision was made for a black background with their being so many dark pieces. The models exited the show through a strangely lit middle section of the runway that was oddly curtained off from most of the audience.

Milan Fashion Week - Spring 2012

It's off to Italy next for Milan Fashion Week. MFW feels like more of a working holiday than a job. Here's a shot from the Frankie Morello Spring 2012 collection. This was shot using a Canon 70 - 200mm f2.8 L ISII and the model strutting her stuff on the runway is Kate King. This was a particularly fun show to shoot mainly down to the accessories and hats. The silver and gold camera necklaces gave a few of the models a chance to snap us for a change.

3 Nights in Paris

I've finally got around to starting my blog! I guess I can see this as being an online historical document, I'm still trying to work it out. I used to keep journals as a teenager and wrote them in a way that others could enjoy, so I'll try and create something similar. This blog will mainly about the adventures I have with my photography, traveling, learning new tricks and techniques, meeting people, photoshoots, runway shows and general things I photograph. Looking back at the last few years I wish I started right at the beginning, I'll try and fill the gaps as I go along.

So to get things started here is a shot of the Elie Saab finale from the Fall 2011 Haute Couture collection in Paris. The image was shot on a Canon 1Ds Mark III with a 300mm Canon L Prime telephoto lens. Paris Couture is the only Fashion Week I have shot using primes and the results were some super sharp images that showed the detail of the garments beautifully. The model who was the point of focus is Monika Jagaciak or Jac as she likes to be called. Out of the 3 days of the Haute Couture Fashion Week this was my favourite collection to shoot.
