Backstage at Paul Smith - Fall 2012

This was a backstage I had been looking forward to throughout London Fashion Week, I was still suffering from some slight jet lag but the show must go on and the Paul Smith Fall 2012 show didn't fail to impress.

Something I love about shooting backstage is getting close to the hair, the make-up, the garments and the usually intense build up to show time. Stylists and choreographers tempers sometimes flare but thankfully it all ran smoothly. More models appear to be using iPad's this season to pass the time sat in hair and make-up.

These images were shot using a Canon 5D Mark II, a 28 -70mm L f/2.8 with a mini soft box.

3 Nights in Paris

I've finally got around to starting my blog! I guess I can see this as being an online historical document, I'm still trying to work it out. I used to keep journals as a teenager and wrote them in a way that others could enjoy, so I'll try and create something similar. This blog will mainly about the adventures I have with my photography, traveling, learning new tricks and techniques, meeting people, photoshoots, runway shows and general things I photograph. Looking back at the last few years I wish I started right at the beginning, I'll try and fill the gaps as I go along.

So to get things started here is a shot of the Elie Saab finale from the Fall 2011 Haute Couture collection in Paris. The image was shot on a Canon 1Ds Mark III with a 300mm Canon L Prime telephoto lens. Paris Couture is the only Fashion Week I have shot using primes and the results were some super sharp images that showed the detail of the garments beautifully. The model who was the point of focus is Monika Jagaciak or Jac as she likes to be called. Out of the 3 days of the Haute Couture Fashion Week this was my favourite collection to shoot.
